Arlington Memorial Gardens 2024 Remembrance Service

Though I’ve played other organ concerts at Arlington, this is the first time I’ve accompanied Arlington’s Annual 2024 Service of Remembrance on December 22.  I brought the Roland Digital Keyboard and set-up in the commons area of the mausoleum.  It was perfect for me to play about 45 minutes of meditative Christmas Carols and hymns along with related general hymns of reflection and light classical selections.  About two hundred persons attended, spending time in quite reflection, hearing a message of hope, singing two hymns, and lighting a candle of remembrance for their loved one as names were read.  All present received a poinsettia along with a remembrance ornaments as they departed.  It was a beautiful time to remember and reflect.  I’m hoping the beauty of the carols and music provided some comfort and encouragement.  This is one of my very favorite things to do (along with playing during communion services).  I’m grateful for this opportunity to share with the community and to explore the Roland Keyboard in a different way than I usually play it with the worship band at Crestview.
