On December 7, 2019 Crestview presented the Cincinnati Brass Band in “A Merry Christmas Concert” featuring the Crestview Chancel Choir and Rodney Barbour at Crestview’s Allen Organ and Rodgers MX-200 Module.  A festive crowd of over 400 enjoyed a great start of the Christmas music season.

The brass played fun arrangements of Deck the Halls, Rudolf, Frosty, Silent Night and other carols which all joined in singing. The Chancel Choir sang two spectacular arrangements by Dan Forrest with the band including Festival First Nowell and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.  Rodney played a Joel Raney arrangement of familiar carols (Christmas Fantasy) for Brass and Organ, then two organ solos—a luxuriant orchestral treatment of Gesu Bambino and flashy full organ treatment of the Russian Dance from Nutcracker.  The Brass made a smooth transition into their final selection Russian Christmas Music based on chants from the Eastern Orthodox Church.  The full brass sound was spectacular and could have almost parted the Red Sea!  Conductor Jon Noworyta put together a delightful program and the many styles, tonal contrasts, volumes, timbres,  offered an interesting variety to capture the audience and was topped ONLY by Gayle and Otto Keaton’s fantastic Christmas cookies and punch treats at intermission.

The concert was live-streamed—the first time our Crestview volunteers have live streamed a concert.  So, if this description interests you, go to Crestview’s FaceBook page or www.crestviewchurch.com and scroll to the post on December 7 and you can watch and listen to the program!  Special thanks to all Crestview Choir members who gave their time and talent for this inspiring event and to all who supported a great evening of music at Crestview.
